When to surf in Morocco? The season, month by month

Morocco's surf season runs from October to April, when the North Atlantic sends its swell. Summer, gentler, suits beginners. The detail, month by month.

In short: the best window to surf Morocco runs from October to April — that's when North Atlantic depressions send long, regular swells. Summer is still surfable, with smaller waves, perfect for learning.

What's the best season for waves?

From November to February it's the heart of the Atlantic winter: the most powerful swells, the points waking up, the water around sixteen to seventeen degrees. The season for confident surfers.

And for beginners?

From April to October the sea settles: smaller, more spaced-out waves, water at eighteen or nineteen degrees — the ideal window for a first week. And even in deep winter, from November to February, no one is shut out: Mirleft and its surroundings keep more sheltered fall-back spots where beginners find their place while the confident go chasing the big swell. You can learn to surf here all year round.

Month by month, what to expect?

  • October–November — the water still mild, the first autumn swells, and sheltered spots to ease into it.
  • December–February — winter and the biggest waves for the confident; but also, around Mirleft, more sheltered fall-back coves for beginners (cooler water, a 3/2 mm wetsuit advised).
  • March–April — the swell eases, the days lengthen, the light is superb.
  • May–September — summer: small waves, warm sea, ideal for beginners and families.

With us, in Mirleft, you don't really choose the sea: you fall in step with it. Tell us your level and the season that tempts you, and we'll welcome you for the week that suits you — un thé au bout du monde.
